The contest for fairness in the digital age is no longer about access, but about agency — who controls the data that defines our lives.

Mr. Babatunde Irukera, Esq.
On 11-13 November 2025, CSASE had the privilege to host Mr. Babatunde Irukera, Esq., former Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria’s Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), at Harvard University. As part of his visit, Mr. Irukera delivered an address at the Harvard Faculty Club entitled Big Tech, Data Privacy & Fair Digital Markets in Africa: Insights from the Nigeria FCCPC v. Meta Litigation (slides available HERE), in which he highlighted the causes, outcomes, and lessons learned from the FCCPC's recent case against Meta for anticompetitive practices in the digital advertising market. As noted by Mr. Irukera, the Nigeria v. Meta case, which culminated in the first negotiated Big Tech privacy resolution in Africa, provides a rare example of "how an emerging economy can protect consumers and markets in a fair manner and govern Big Tech power and or dominance within its borders." The remarks of Mr. Irukera at the Harvard Faculty Club were followed by robust discussion with attendees, including scholars, researchers, and students.
In addition to his speaking engagement, Mr. Irukera's visit to Harvard University featured meetings with distinguished Harvard faculty and representatives of African student organizations.
